You’re Not the Only One~
Topic : Breastfeeding
Let me just say this week has been a DOOZIE.
Teething would be one reason (more on that is a sec).
The other reason?
CBJ is turning one next weekend.
How is that possible?
Has now grown into this child…
How does this happen?
I know, I know.
It’s the Circle of Life.
Babies grow up.
Like they’re supposed to.
Guess who had a meltdown about it in the car Wednesday?
You know it was me.
On the way to Old Navy and out of the blue…
I could feel the emotions rise.
Started humming tunes from her birth mix (that’s right, I played music during her birth AND after- crazy hippie.).
And then I remembered her needing to be rocked all the time.
Being so tiny on the boppie.
So light in her carrier…
Thankfully I held it to the single “pretty” tear, instead of the blubbering, red-faced, everyone knows you were crying tears.
Hard for me folks.
I have written it before and I’ll write it again…this mama thing is HARD.
On many levels having kids is a challenge but the constant change and the knowledge you gotta let them go and grow.
Life lesson being learned.
Another life lesson?
Chances are you’re not the only one.
I say it in yoga class sometimes and I heard it from the woman who trained me.
You’re not the only one who had an emotional reaction.
You’re not the only one that feels sad at the commercial.
You’re not the only one who hates whatever sport everyone seems to love.
And if you have a kid, according to all the google searches, you’re certainly not alone in “odd” child behavior.
I really think this is part of the reason I write this blog these days.
So other parents know that they’re not alone.
I always thought things would go “smoothly” as a parent and let’s be honest…if my kid don’t want to nurse, I think it’s a nursing strike.
She’s been a great latcher, happy eater, only mildly gassy, and overall happy kid.
Things come up, you know?
And then you’re on google like a paranoid jackass at 2:00 a.m., asking all manner of quetions
What were my google searches this week?
“child gagging themselves with their hands”
“child refuses to nap”
“child has a cut, is it staph?”
“what does staph look like?”
“is my child teething?”
And always a favorite…”is this a nursing strike?”
Why the post to make you feel less alone in the world of “what the hell is my kid doing?”…
CBJ started gagging herself yesterday.
It was the weirdest thing I’ve heard and seen.
Apparently, not that uncommon.
I swear if I didn’t have the women in my life I do, I would be a basket case.
I’m fairly consistent in my check-ins.
The text asking, “have you experienced this…?”
And I am so thankful for the replies of..”yep, totally happened to us too” or “yeah, that happens, just keep an eye on it.”.
There’s not much better than to realize you’re not alone.
I always want to be available for anyone, anytime.
Not that I know much.
Clearly according to my google searches, I’m pretty clueless.
However, in case you are at home freaking out cause your kid hasn’t napped for 3 days…chances are, you’re not the only one.
And you’re not the only one who’s kid gets fussy at the boob after they start crawling.
You’re not the only one who’s kid now REALLY wants to nurse from the hours between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. (um…our house these past few weeks) when they had been almost sleeping through the night.
And you’re not the only parent that has committed to doing Baby-Led Weaning. And you expected them to eat like they’d been on a liquid diet the past 8 months but they seem to only want guacamole and the occasional cracker.
Everyone needs some reassurance some days, especially with trying to raise kids.
Cause let me be honest, most days I look at CBJ and think, “Really? You chose me?”
And she did.
And we’re in it together even though some days it’s a mess…
Keep on keeping on mamas.
